Description
Sacred Imphepho Smudge Stick
Africa’s Sacred Herb
Our 100% pure Imphepho is farmed sustainably in collaboration with farmers in the Eastern Cape as part of rural development where it is hand picked, hand tied and dried in 100% cotton.
When Imphepho is harvested it is very important that it is done in a respectful and sustainable way. When entering the area where one intends to harvest traditional medicine – you must always ask permission of the guardian or grandfather – which may be a very big or old tree growing nearby. Before the plant is cut or dug out – it must be asked if it agrees to be medicine, and one must explain to the plant what and for whom it is needed.
Medicinal uses of the plant include being used as an antiseptic and insecticide. It also has anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties. Imphepho, a sedating herb, promotes relaxation and improved sleep while aiding stress and aches and pains such as headaches and tense muscles. It’s also an insect repellent and antimicrobial that helps treat coughs and colds.
Imphepho’s many uses include the smoke of the herb used as a sacred incense or smudge to call the ancestors, cleanse energy and as an offering when praying.
Please be cautious when buying Imphepho and we kindly ask you to purchase from reputable sellers where this precious and most sacred African herb is ethically, respectfully and sustainably harvested.
How to use a Smudge Stick
Holding the smudge stick by the “handle” end, use a lighter to ignite the tip. Blow out any open flames so that the leaves slowly smoulder. Next, wave the smudging wand around a room, person, or objects to direct the fragrant, cleansing smoke. Catch the ashes in a heat-resistant dish (a regular plate filled with sand is sufficient. Smudge sticks can be extinguished in a dish of sand and re-used many times. Of course, never leave burning smudges unattended.
We have included a prayer for you should you wish to use it.
